We at Machrihanish Online are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of much loved local man Eddie Maguire.
As well as being well known to Kintyre folks, Eddie was also the friendly face of The Machrihanish Seabird & Wildlife Observatory, who delighted and educated many a visitor with his knowledge of the incredible array of wildlife in our area.

On a musical note, Eddie co-wrote Bay of Storms with Davy Robertson, a personal favourite from the Wee Toon Tellers album, 10 Years Matured.

Written by Eddie Maguire and Davy Robertson of Campbeltown, Argyll. Film clips and still shots taken around Machrihanish in Kintyre and the Mull of Oa in Islay. Performed by John Kelly and Derek Macdonald of The Old Bores

The Machrihanish Wildlife page on this site was created with Eddie’s help and is a popular page for visitors.

Our thoughts and condolences to family and all who knew him.
He will be sorely missed and we are pleased to see his good work will continue at the Observatory.
Update. The Observatory is now looked after by Warden David Millward with the assistance of Assistant Wardens Jo Goudie and Victoria Russell.

  1. Eddie was my late fathers half brother. I found this out in February this year, we spent many wonderful hours chatting over the telephone and finally got to meet just two weeks ago…
He was a wonderful man whom I’m so pleased to have found.
